Yoga means "union" in Sanskrit. It refers to a union of body, mind and soul, or on a spiritual level - a union of our little self with our greatest potential or our Higher Self. The great saint Patanjali, who lived 2400 years ago, defined yoga as a neutralization of the waves of feelings, or as he put it: "Yoga chitta vritti nirodh". He considered yoga a process of energy control, or balancing of ups and downs so we can consciously act from our center and live in a state of higher awareness. Therefore, Yoga practice typically includes breathing exercises (pranayama), postures (asana) and a guided relaxation. The benefits of a regular yoga practice are many, and can be felt on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. For more information, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
